Red Sox have claimed Johnny Damon off waivers.

Rumor has it that he wants, as is his contractual right in this case, to negate the trade from Detroit. He’s quoted as saying: “What a scene that would be, playing for the Red Sox while the Yankees go there, and everybody there hates me. That’s the craziness that’s involved.”

I want to know what did Damon expect from fans in Boston when he left to play for the Yankees? Did he expect a strong pat on the back, a heart-felt “thanks for all the good-times” and a pat on the ass as he stepped into the box at Yankee stadium? Of course people were mad. Of course people had fun with it. Whatever malice Damon experienced as a Yankee in Boston, was all part of what should be expected by a professional athlete choosing to chase money from town to town. That is his right, and he can prioritize whatever he wants in his career, but he cannot, he should not have expected hugs and rainbows when he made his choices.

More interestingly, is his naive assumption that Boston fans are still mad. Personally, I think if he came back to Boston, he would be embraced and lauded incredibly. Fans would love to have him back in a Red Sox uniform. We loved him while he was here! If he spent even part of his last years back in Boston, people would love it, and him, for it. It would be a Boston media sensation.

So whatever sour grapes Damon feels, I hope he gets over it. I think his return would bring attention to a team on the brink of irrelevance with the chance of not making the playoffs, as the juggernaut of the NFL looms on the horizon. Heck, unlike with the Yankees he could even grow a beard again.

I was walking to work yesterday and I walked by a bus stop and noticed a new sign for “Step-Up 3D” on the side of the bus stop shed. It made me wonder, when do people actually change those signs? I’ve never actually seen the change happen before my eyes. This made me wonder about all manner of things I never see happen that show clear evidence that they have. So, I shall list some of them:

Changing Bus Stop Signs
Cleaning up road kill
Fueling up buses
Emptying of public mailboxes
Shoveling of public sidewalks
Returning library books to shelves
Returning of un-purchased food items to grocery shelves
Cleaning the inside of an automatic Car-Wash
Cleaning of garbage trucks
Emptying public trash cans

I’m sure there are tons more… I’ll add if I think of some

cheers
